4e/OGL Matters
According to Scott Rouse, D&D Brand Manager, it appears that there will be no fee involved with 3rd party use of the 4e SRD. 4e will definitely be supporting the OGL and a new SRD will be released. The question is, will 3rd party publishers have access to such a document before the new core books will be released. It'd be nice, I say, but not necessary. Publishers will just have to take a page from WotC's book and release fluff-tastic products before the new edition emerges to the public.

Huh. That's a surprise. I really thought they'd go for a token fee, at least. It actually might have been useful, even, to make the retailers a bit more comfortable with the next wave of d20 books.
It is a surprise, to be sure. Heck, it's even surprising that they decided to continue with OGL support at all. Perhaps that was a pandora's box that fans will never allow to be closed?
There's a chance the d20 logo license might go only to specific publishers with proven track records.
So anyone can release a OGL book, but you only get the d20 logo if your quality control is up to snuff.

I suppose that makes sense, Harley, but would that not necessitate some kind of watchdog group under WotC to maintain that quality assurance? And does the d20 logo for customers already savvy from 8 years of products really make that much difference anymore, I wonder?
I think those are all good points ... all I have are rumors, but supposably there are 3-4 publishers on the "short list." We'll see if that bears out. :)
